Joe Fan
So, the Saints got Ricky, it's Ditka's 3rd year (that's all he said he needed), Billy Joe is healthy and HOPEFULLY can remain that way so we can see what kind of QB he really is, an upgraded recieving core with the dead weight weeded out, the defense although mediocre last year is a very solid defense as long as the secondary steps up. And with the signing of Ambrose and Clay, I expect that to happen!
  • What's my prediction ??    11-5!!!   Am I optimistic, you bet!
  • Will we win the NFC West???  Sure, why not!
  • Will we win a playoff game???   Definitely!!   More than one!!!
  • Will we make the Super Bowl??   Hope so!!......I know you're LOL by now...but then again I really don't give a rat's rectum.
Barring any MAJOR injuries, in my opinion all these lofty goals are reachable!!! Now here's to a successful season and we'll see you in the Dome.

Come back for my personal and insightful ;) weekly post game summary and analysis...as long as I'm not down in the Quarter dancing on the tables at Pat O's!

Week 1
  Saints 19 Carolina 10

It wasn't pretty but we won. The opening kickoff set the tone of the game, special teams and a very strong defense won the game for the Saints. Sacks and turnovers were on the defense's menu for the day. I believe Brady Smith and William Whitehead will fill in nicely for Pro Bowler Joe Johnson. Smith looked great. He is relentless! Whitehead continues to get better and better...maybe he's another find like Glover.

The bad news was that at the end of the first quarter Ricky re-injured his tender left ankle. Though it isn't suppose to be serious and he may play in San Fran, I say...LET HIM SIT UNTIL HE'S 100%!!!! The O line is looking good. They are creating holes that even I could run through. Lamar, Wilmont, Dino and Troy will be able to carry the load until Ricky's 100%. Lamar is running with more authority this year and Dino Philyaw looks like a diamond in the rough. We don't want Ricky bothered by a nagging ankle the entire year!

Hobert looked rusty, but I think he will be a SOLID QB once he finds his groove. He's tuff and smart. Poole is one fast son of a gun....I like him. Opposing teams have more that Kennison to worry about.

1-0 is a good start but 2-0 will be even better. (besides the fact they're gonna be two divisional wins). San Fran, even before the Jaguar game, looked very beatable. They've got no running game, a quick but short secondary, no defensive front and a concussion prone QB! I think we will win in San Fran 27-13! We'll see!

Please visit the San Fran site link at the bottom of this page!

Week 2
  Saints 21 Whinners 28

OK...it's been a week and I think I can finally write about the game without having to censor every other word. What a typical game at whinner stadium.

The Saints really should have had more of a lead and MUST work on putting the game away!! The defense, as expected, beat the snot out of Young and he deserves some credit for staying in there...even though he had NO idea where the hell he was! I love the Saints' D!!! Sacks, sacks and more sacks. These guys are going to have a GREAT year and will be a dominant force in the NFL. Ambrose is impressive...we need to sign him long term. Brady Smith is stepping up and filling Joe Johnson's shoes just fine! The whole D line looks awesome!!!!

After some initial mental errors by the Saints O, they got on track and looked good. Ricky ran well after he got his game face on and if we don't have the best O line...please tell me who does! No sacks and holes that Jason (my 15 mth old) could run through!! Poole is Da man!! For the second straight week he has a long TD...glad I've got him on my fantasy team. ;) Kennison still hasn't shown me he's got break away speed...maybe since Poole is doing well, it will open up some lanes for Kennison.

It looks like Ricky's ankle wasn't bothering him and that's very good news. The BIG BLACK cloud that is hanging over Ricky is starting to develop into a tropical depression...and that's very bad! This guy just wants to play football, have fun and win games. Just when his ankle seems to be doing fine, he hyper-extends his elbow...pretty gross looking, not to mention painful. Last offensive play...EGADS! I can't wait til hurricane season is over and Ricky can get, stay, run healthy!

I guess I HAVE to address the whinners' last drive...I'll make it short cause if I get going.....Anyway, the Rice catch review?? Good reversal...he caught it! However, that would be a moot point if Hewitt doesn't go helmet to helmet with an obviously battered Young. The refs made a no call on a similar play when Hobert got hit late...but I'm not saying there was any partiality. The pass interference call in the end zone against Drakeford...PAHLEASE!! The ball was NOT CATCHABLE!!!!!!!! The contact looked innocent enough to me and there was yet another no call earlier when Craver (I think) was clothes lined a good second before the ball got there...but I'm not saying the refs were partial..but since you keep mentioning it...I think it was pretty obvious!

After the whinner's tied it up, the Saints' play calling was suspect. I think it was a combination of Hobert trying tooo hard and poor play calling. There was no hurry...Ricky had been running well. Any pass should have been a little 5-10 yd dinker...all we needed was a dam FG. I think the interception was more a case of Hobert getting ansy...his inexperience showed, but he'll get better!

I predicted the Saints 11-5 so obviously this loss isn't the end of the world and I had it marked as a loss on my schedule. As you will soon notice, I will NEVER predict a Saints' loss the week before ANY game! Go figure! But we could have as many as 5 this year. ;)

So, how will the Saints do against Ditka's old team? It's a game we must win. We DO NOT want to start 1-2! The Saints D will have no problem handling the Bears. The special teams will, as always, play well and the offense has got to move the ball. (Speaking of special teams...LOVE that fake kick!!! Keep'em guessing!)If Ricky can't go, the line should be able to make some holes Lamar or Troy can run through. Watch for Poole! Saints 20 Chicago 6

Obviously I am going to have to start archiving my comments! Next time, maybe!

Week 3
  Saints 10 Bears 14

Damn...this loss hurt BIG TIME!! I would not have been able to rationally and calmly post this earler...I'm doing much better!

We lost ANOTHER game we DOMINATED throughout in the closing minutes. That's not good. I was surprised to see Ricky in there and all things considered...he did well. Hobert getting knock out of the game DEFINITELY hurt. Tolliver looked totally inconsistent and he won't win any games playing like that....hopefully we won't need him again this year!! We must go after a QUALITY QB next year!!!!

The DEFENSE (caps mean it should be read loudly in your head...like this DDEEEEEFENSSSSSE) played awesome...that is until Ambrose came out and they marched down the field. OUCH!!! The O needs to put more points on the board....FIVE..count them 1,2,3,4,5!..turnovers and the offense can only get 3 points! We have to do better to win.

Ditka decided to pass on three potential FG opportunities and went for it. OK...PUT IN RICKY!!! EVERYONE is looking for Craver to get it! Lamar was up to his old tricks! I know the conditions were very poor, but Brien's GOT to be able to nail a 45 yarder!?!? If you go...make it!! I would have liked to seen the fake FG for a pass instead of a pooch kick, but hey, I ain't da coach.

The Falcons are banged up BIG time. This is always a great game....always close. It's a great rivalry!!!! I see the Saints coming back and making a huge statement as to where they are going this year....we MUST WIN!!! Saints 23 Falcons 0. (23 = 2TD and #...yes THREE FGs...take'em coach!)

Week 4
  Saints 17 Falcons 20

This shit's getting old and I'm getting really sick and tired of writing the same thing every week...so I won't!

But I will make one statement....If Hobert's sitting on the bench this week, why isn't Ricky??? Ricky's injures are just as bad if not more serious that BJ's. Plus Ricky will be getting hit more....he'll NEVER be 100% at this rate. I could tell his performance has dropped and JUST his presence on the field is not motivating the offense any.

 Just WIN!!!!!

Week 5
  Saints 21 Titans 24

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finish the games like you start the!!!!!!!!

 Just WIN!!!!!

Week 6
  Saints 3 Giants 31

This is a PG-13 page.....so far. The pic of the week still holds.

This week BETTER be a WIN that we can build on. We need to win these next three home games and they are very winnable! JUST DO IT!!!

This is a very talented team....MUCH MUCH better than their record.

What the hell...Saints 33 Browns 3

Week 7, 8 and 9
  Saints 16 Browns 21
Saints 16 Titans 31
Saints 24 whiners 6

Ok, ok, ok…I've been in denial….. BIG TIME! I haven't been updating because the Saints have continued to disgust me in their losing ways breaking my heart along the way for good measure. I could tolerate the losses better if they didn't continue to self destruct. THEY ARE NOT AS BAD AS THEIR RECORD!! 2-7!! 2 and 7!!!!!! That's a 2-7 that SHOULD BE at worst 7-2. No excuses here, no living in the past or clinging to the things that could have been BUT as a life long Saints fan, what else do I have??

The loss to Cleveland was typical of this year. We turn the ball over twice inside our own twenty to give the Browns two easy TDs and make a game of it. The Saints DOMINATED the game and could have coasted to an easy W, but noooooooo. We scratch and claw to get in the position to win with a last "second" FG, but BJT panics and calls a TO with 26 seconds on the clock. Not a smart, heads up, seasoned veteran decision. Then our secondary, once again, gives up a long hail mary…..I, like the rest of the faithful in the dome that day, was so disgusted and heart broken it's a miracle there was 40K+ in the dome for the Titans game.

Oh man, the Titans ran all over us and this is the "2" in my 7-2 shoulda. We did have an opportunity to tie it up at the end but feel short due to poor special teams play.

The only thing that Ditka seem to be good at consistently is motivating his players. He never let's them get down and always has them playing with heart....I guess that's because he consistently coaches his teams to a record where hope and heart are needed most. ;)

The whinner win was orgasmic! I loved beating those guys even if they are only a shadow of their former selves. It was the perfect scenario for the Saints to let yet another beatable team come away with a win. It's a perfect example of Ditka motivating his team…they came through with shinning colors.

It was my 5 year old's (Marc) first game and what a game. Maybe he's our lucky charm. Of course, like most 5 year olds at a Saints' game, he was more concerned about the eats than the game. But when the dome started to rock and I was stirring him up, he started to get the fever. When everyone was yelling DEFENSE, he decided that POKEMON would be a better motivational chant….so we both started screaming POKEMON, POKEMON…….it worked!

Maybe the Saints' players are playing POKEMON on their laptops instead of reading the playbook and Charmander lit a fire under their asses. (credit that thought to EzF…forum reg)

I said before the game (on NOLA's Saints forum) that the whinner loss in September was what put the Saints in this horrible fog of self-destruction which has plagued them ever since. Revenge was a big motivating factor in the Saints performance and a win would club to death the monkey that the whinners helped onto the Saints' collective shoulder on that fateful day in September in whinnerville.

Now, we'll see! The Jaguars are a HUGE test. They are the best defensive team in the NFL and have the record to prove it 8-1. Thank good old Dom Capers for the D….damn he's a great defensive coach! The Jaqs' fans actually booed their 8-1 team in the 4th quarter last week?!??! Can you imagine how much rockin the dome would be doing if the Saints were 7-1 and leading a team 6-3 in the fourth……it will be deafening ………..it's going to happen soon.. very, very soon!

The Saints D is banged up big time, but I'm looking for the replacements to step it up a notch for the national crowd. Poole, Kennison and Ricky will do enough damage to upset the Jaguars at home on ESPN and in the process make Joe Blow Theismen eat his brainless words.

 Saints 16 Jaguars 10

Weeks 10 and 11
  Saints 17 Jaqs a bunch
Saints 12 Rams a whole lot

Well, well, well....the Saints are back to their old ways. They played two VERY good first halves against two very good teams. But the second half of each game proved to be too much.

Some of the players have already given up on this year and their play is indicative of their desire to be at home counting their $$$. Those are the ones that need to be given their walking papers! They play not for the sake of the game or for pride, but for personal recognition and financial gain only.

What happened to the defense??? We get no pressure on the QB. Where is the blitz?? "Big Pay" Willie Clay only has big plays for the opposing teams...they should call him Mr. TD. He's one of the guys playing for the offseason...NO HEART!!!

Ditka is not working out and must go! I had hoped that he would develop the same fiery gritty type team as in Chicago, but it is a different game these days. Unfortunately, I don't see anyone in Saints management with gonads big enough to fire him. He will leave only on his terms and as of today he "says" he's sticking it out, but I kinda think he will be saying bye-bye to New Orleans in the off season...hoping his restaurant will survive with the losing legacy he will leave behind...NOT!

So with Ditka gone...hopefully...who do we bring in?? Who will come in a get results immediately (We can't go through another "three year plan")? Bring in Dom Capers as head coach/D-coordinator. Let's hope he can surround himself with a quality coaching staff. Hell, I'd even take the whinner's Mariuchi (sp?...no idea how to spell that one;) cause he's gone from the City by the Bay

Kurharich (sp?) is a terrible GM. He displays no backbone and delegates HIS responsibilities to others. GET RID OF HIM!!

Sad to say, I really don't see the Saints winning any more than one of their remaining games with the level of current play. And that one is against the Falcons this week. The Rams, Ravens, Cowpies and Panthers are playing solid football.

DAMN!!!! I really thought this was going to be a break through year!!!! PLEASE forgive me for saying this, but.......MAYBE NEXT YEAR!!

Weeks 12 and 13
Saints doesn't matter   falcoons don't remember
Saints don't remember   Rams doesn't matter

Well, there ya go! NO MORE WINS THIS YEAR! The players have obviously stopped playing, the coaches have stopped coaching and most "fans" have stopped caring, BUT NOT ME! Shame on all of them for giving up! The SAINTS should be out there playing for pride and the fans since they get the damn checks weather they earn it or not.

I'm hoping Benson will be a wise businessman (oxymoron ?)and fire the GM and the coaches. Keep Bailey and O'Neil. Bring in a strong proven QUALITY GM. No ideas off the top of my head but they have to be someone out there that can and will come here and build a winner. Any ideas?? Anyone out there?

My top three coaches, in order of preference: Mack Brown, Kubiack (sp?), Dom Capers, Sperrier (sp?).

Let's just go gfet some one PLEEEEASE! Someone that can use most of the personnel (remotivated of course), someone offensive-minded, someone who can lure some good assistants. My Christmas wish list: Mack as head coach and Capers comes home as D- coach!

Speaking of Christmas and Y2K being up after that and the fact that the Saints are playing as flat as the remnants of a week old frat keg....do not look for any updates to the Saints page until after Ditka's gone....I mean after January third.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR (AKA HAPPY BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE MILLENIUM)
